LOWELL -- For the second year in a row, UMass Lowell students have combined a celebration of the influential women of rock 'n' roll with a fund-raiser for a local charity.

Mothers of Rock: A Tribute to Women in Music II will take place on Thursday at Durgin Concert Hall, with half of all proceeds going to Girls Incorporated of Greater Lowell. This entirely student-run event features an art show and concert by a mostly all-female line-up.

The 43 students in the show, including Lori Kirk, Michelle Quimby, Kellie Graham and Brie Sullivan, will pay tribute to their musical influences, such as Norah Jones, The Cranberries and Alicia Keys.

The show's producer, Kate Dore, who has secured sponsors from the Lowell Memorial Auditorium, Newbury Comics, Middlesex Community College and Wild Oats, has noticed an audible buzz around the show this year.

With twice as many acts and a celebrity emcee, Michelle Briand, formerly a DJ for The River 92.5, this show is set to rock.

A $5 donation is suggested and the doors open at 7 p.m. For more information, call 978-360-7102.
