The University of Massachusetts has named Robert Gamache as the dean of the Intercampus Graduate School of Marine Sciences and Technology.

Gamache's job will be to aid the school in becoming nationally and internationally recognized for its work in the understanding, management and protection of Massachusetts coast and ocean ecosystems and resources.

The graduate school was established in 2002 and offers both master's and doctoral programs.

Marcellette Williams, UMass' senior vice president for academic affairs, student affairs and international relations, named Gamache to the post Monday.

Gamache was previously the associate dean for the Intercampus Graduate School and maintained a faculty position in the department of environmental, earth and atmospheric sciences at UMass Lowell. He is a UMass alumnus as well.
