UMass Lowell women 2nd seed in NCAA's

LOWELL The UMass Lowell women's basketball team will play Southern Connecticut State University in a first round NCAA Division 2 Northeast Regional game Friday at Bentley College.

The time of the game is scheduled to be announced today. The men's NCAA matchups are also due today. That event is expected to be hosted by UMass Lowell.

The UMass Lowell women (23-7) are the regional's second-seed, behind Bentley, while Southern Connecticut (21-9) is seeded-seventh.

The River Hawks lead the all-time series against the Owls, 35-11, winning 30 of the last 32 meetings.

UMass Lowell is 6-0 against Southern Connecticut in the postseason. However, Friday's game will be the first-ever NCAA meeting between the River Hawks and Owls.

The UMass Lowell/Southern Connecticut winner will play the winner of the No. 3 Stonehill (20-7) vs. No. 6 St. Thomas Aquinas (22-7) game.

In other first round games, Bentley (29-2) will play No. 8 New Haven (20-9), and No. 4 Dowling (25-5) will face No. 5 Merrimack College (20-8).
