UMass Lowell Staffer to Be Featured on C-SPAN Kerouac Program

Paul Marion, UMass Lowell assistant director of community relations and a University alumnus, will be featured live on C-SPAN as part of a feature on author Jack Kerouac, a Lowell native.  The program, part of C-SPAN's American Writers series, will run Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m.

Marion, a local poet and writer, is editor of Atop an Underwood: Early Stories and Other Writings by Jack Kerouac.  He coordinated the development of the Jack Kerouac Commemorative, a sculptural tribute to the Lowell-born author best known for his novel On the Road.  The Sunday program, which will be broadcast live from Kerouac Park, also will feature host Bruce Collins; Dr. Douglas Brinkley, Eisenhower Center for American Studies at the University of New Orleans and a Kerouac biographer; David Amram, musician and Kerouac artistic collaborator; and John Sampas, brother-in-law of Jack Kerouac.

Marion also will lead a tour of Jack Kerouac-related sites in downtown Lowell for C-SPAN cameras on Saturday.  It is expected to be included with a rebroadcast of the show on Friday, June 14 at 8 p.m., University Communications
