Lowell Waterways Trail Guide Available

The new Lowell Waterways Trail Guide is a handy map of the various walkways along the city’s 5.6-mile canal system and the Merrimack River. The guide highlights natural features and sites of historic interest along the routes and includes the distances between locations for those who want to keep track of their mileage. For example, the leg from Mammoth Road to the Rourke Bridge beyond the Bellegarde Boathouse is 1.5 miles.

This is an informative publication that serves as a perfect introduction to the urban outdoors in the heart of Lowell. From the sight of big blue herons to a view of spectacular sunsets over the Merrimack, these walkways and scenic vantage points are worth the hike. The UMass Lowell campus offers easy access to the system of waterside paths.

The guide was published by The Lowell Plan Inc. in collaboration with many local agencies and organizations, including UMass Lowell, Middlesex Community College, the National Park Service, and the regional Convention and Visitors Bureau.
