Students deserve a better way to connect and help one another with their studies, and to help them be successful in their college experience.
Teach A Pal, otherwise known as T.A.P., is a team dedicated to helping student success through peer involvement. The team consists of Hylton Carboo, a junior in Computer Science, Cassandra Francois, a junior in Art, and Bernard Tay, a senior in Marketing and Entrepreneurship. The idea behind it is to highlight the work students do outside the classroom to their professors while allowing them to connect for tutoring opportunities, and to allow students a chance to get extra credit for the work they put into their classes.
T.A.P., a mobile application aiming to connect students on a wider basis, would increase the availability of any student for tutoring, and they would be able to reach a wider audience at UMass Lowell, and perhaps even other universities with the same model. The team is currently working on development, and making sure their platform serves all those who need it.
T.A.P. won the Fan Favorite prize of $1,000 during the 2018 Idea Challenge. This funding will be used towards project development. They were also connected to two mentors to help with their success, Chris Pastrana, owner of the NH Business Show, and Peter Mullin, attorney at Law Office of Peter J. Mullin and UMass Lowell adjunct for the Manning School of Business. With these resources available to them, T.A.P. hopes to provide students with even more resources for their academic success.
