Read & Write Gold

Read&Write is literacy software that allows you to read on-screen text aloud, research and check written work, and create study guides. While this software is designed for everyone, it is especially helpful for auditory learners, people with print disabilities, or anyone whose first language isn't English.

License Coverage

This license allows all active faculty, staff and enrolled students to install this product on university-owned or personally-owned computers. Read&Write is also available in vLabs.

Software Download

This product runs on Windows and Mac operating systems.

  1. For Windows
    • Installation instructions:
      • After downloading, double click the folder.
      • Click Extract All Files on the top left. Select a destination to extract the files - Desktop is recommended.
      • Click Extract. A file named Setup.exe will be created in the location you've chosen.
      • Double click the Setup.exe (Application) file. The Wise Installation Wizard will now open (Important: An internet connection is required).
      • When the installation completes, you will see a Read&Write 12 icon on your desktop.
      • Click on the Read&Write 12 icon to start the program.
      • The Read&Write log in screen will appear. Select the "Microsoft email" option and enter your UML email address and password if prompted.
      • Video tours for each button can be found at the link below or by using the "i" button in the top-right corner of the software.
  2. For Mac
    • Download Read&Write Gold software. Please read the instructions below while doing the installation.
    • Installation instructions:
      • After downloading, navigate to the location where the folder is located and click the Read&Write
      • Accept the license agreement and click OK.
      • There is no Activation Code. Leave it blank and click Activate.
      • Note: In case you get the message "Read&Write can't be opened because it is damaged. Please refer to the support article.
