Dropbox - Faculty License

Important Fall 2020 Update

As a result of the ongoing financial impacts of Covid-19, and the associated University spending restrictions, UMass Lowell has decided to discontinue offering Dropbox licensing. Therefore, when our agreement expires on October 9, 2020 access to Dropbox will be discontinued.

  • Information Technology’s recommendation is to migrate your data to Microsoft OneDrive, which provides substantially more storage to the campus than Dropbox, and is the university’s standard for secure cloud storage. OneDrive offers all the same sharing and syncing capabilities that Dropbox does in addition to providing native simultaneous editing with all Microsoft Office applications. All UMass Lowell students and employees have a minimum of 1TB in OneDrive that IT can expand even further in certain scenarios. This is provided to UMass Lowell as part of our Microsoft agreement at no additional charge, representing a significant cost savings to the University.
    • Migration to OneDrive can be done easily from Dropbox via the university’s Mover cloud tool. Tech Services can assist you in the use of this tool.
  • You may opt to personally pay for continued Dropbox access with non-university funds. In this case, you may sign up for any Dropbox plan, provided you notify Information Technology prior to October 1, 2020 that you wish to do so.
