Windows and third party Patch Management is one of the largest concerns for organizations and IT professionals.
With new vulnerabilities being discovered almost daily, keeping your systems current and secure can be time-consuming and costly. In addition, the lag time between when vulnerability is discovered and when a virus or malware appears is now measured in days or weeks rather than months. This puts tremendous pressure on organizations to ensure timely installation of patches, so security holes remain closed not only in the Windows operating system, but also in other third party applications that are used on desktops, laptops and servers.
KACE’s patch management empowers UMass Lowell to force on-demand patch deployments, control reboot notifications and remove previously installed patches.
To help us go beyond implementing Microsoft updates, KACE’s Software has partnered with a third-party patch management to bring us the power and capability to not only push more than Microsoft updates, but also keep third-party applications up to date with patches, ensuring our network stays safe from outside attacks.
You may see a message pop up on your screen from UMass Lowell IT stating that an update needs to be made to your system and that a restart may be required. You will be allowed to “snooze” this message up to four times for a period of 2 hours each time to allow you to complete your work; after which the updates will automatically install and restart the system.
These procedures run without any user intervention and will not affect the overall performance of your computer.
We are ready to begin patching Windows. Patch management is starting July 1 and will also coincide with some third party software patches as well.
