Local Informal English Programs

Academic English course (Navitas at UMass Lowell) - Class taught by a UMass Lowell instructor

Available only to UMass Lowell students

Classes are conducted on the UMass Lowell campus, where students focus on developing consistent competency, confidence, and effectiveness in listening, speaking, pronunciation, and grammar/vocabulary skills, while reading, speaking and writing in English. It follows the normal UMass Lowell academic calendar and is offered in fall, spring and summer.

International students require prior approval from the International Students & Scholars Office (isso@uml.edu). Please note that the course is non-credit, and will not count towards your UMass Lowell degree.

The programs listed below begin each September, but students are permitted to enter classes throughout the school year. If the class you are placed into is full, you will be placed on a waiting list.

To register you must:

  • Be a resident of Lowell or Greater Lowell
  • Have an I.D. showing your name and local address

Free Basic Day & Night classes, Pre ASE (Adult Secondary Education) and ASE classes.

UMass Lowell International Students require permission from the International Students & Scholars Office prior to registering for any of the following courses from Middlesex Community College.

ELI is a non-credit program that focuses on developing Basic English skills essential to American culture such as technology, life skills, and social conventions.
