Sponsored by the International Students & Scholars Office (ISSO)
The Pair-Up Program was introduced in Fall 2015 and pairs new international students with current American students here at UMass Lowell to encourages multinational friendship and understanding. We organize and promote cultural events and trips on and off campus to help facilitate these new friendships throughout the academic year.
How does it work?
We pair students based on their common interests and majors. Students fill out a short application telling us about themselves and what characteristics they hope their buddy will have. After we've paired all of the participants, we then connect them via e-mail during the summer before the international students arrive on campus to give them a chance to start communicating and getting to know one another. The program is a full academic year commitment beginning in the fall semester.
Why should I apply?
If you're an international student, this program offers the unique opportunity to experience American culture firsthand and make the most of your time here in the U.S. If you're a domestic student, you'll have the chance to welcome new international students to your country, show them around, and make them feel comfortable. In a generation where being a global citizen is imperative, this is a wonderful experience and a great resume builder.
