Community Leader Category

The purpose is to recognize leadership, creative work, support for professional standards and commitment to scholarly nursing. This is the only category which does not have achievement in academic scholarship as a criterion, but rather emphasizes all other areas related to the purposes of Sigma Theta Tau International.

These are nurses with a minimum of a baccalaureate degree who have demonstrated marked achievement in nursing education, practice, research, administration or publication. The majority have degrees in nursing, but exception can be made for registered nurses with bachelor's degrees in other fields if achievement in nursing is outstanding. It is expected that generic graduates be given five years to develop as community leaders.

Community Leader Application Requirements

  • Be legally recognized to practice nursing in the United States
  • Have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in any field.
  • Demonstrate achievement in nursing.

Candidate must complete the Community Leader Membership Intent Form (pdf). Describe most recent contributions to nursing in the area identified as area(s) of achievement. Data and curriculum vitae are to be submitted to support selection criteria. With membership intent form, candidates must submit two Endorsement Forms. These must be completed by active members of Sigma but do not need to be part of the Eta Omega Chapter.

Send all materials to the Graduate Counselor. Contact Information can be found on the Board of Directors webpage.
