- Develops strategies for recognizing and promoting chapter members' involvement in conducting, disseminating, and utilizing research.
- Reviews proposals for research grants and applications for research utilization awards and makes recommendations to the Executive Committee.
- Coordinates the allocation of research travel awards.
The purpose of research grants is to provide funding to assist members in the conduct of research. All members of the Eta Omega Chapter are invited to submit an application for a research grant. One copy of the completed research grant application form, evidence of current membership in Eta Omega Chapter, letter of support from collaborative agencies (if applicable), and ten copies of the research proposal following proposal guidelines must be submitted to the Chairperson of the Research Committee by April 30. Two categories for review and funding are available:
- Level 1 Investigator: author of a research article in a peer review journal.
- Level 2 Investigator: has not published a research article
A maximum of two awards per category for an individual.

Review and notification process
The committee chairperson distributes the proposals to Research Committee members for blind review. Using the evaluation tool each member of the committee initially conducts an independent review of all proposals. Secondly, a collective blind review of each proposal occurs at a Committee Meeting. If a Research Committee member submits a proposal, he/she does not review any of the proposals. Based on these reviews the Research Committee makes recommendations to the Chapter's Board of Directors regarding funding of proposals. After the Chapter's Board of Directors votes on the Research Committee's recommendation, all applicants are notified by the Research Committee Chairperson of the decision. The announcement of recipients of the research grants and the presentation of certificate with check for amount of the grant occur at the Fall Founder's Day program.
Presentation of Research
Recipients of research grants are expected to present their research at a Chapter meeting. The avenue for this presentation is coordinated by the Chapter Program Committee.
Research Utilization Award
The purpose of this award is to promote the utilization of research by recognizing members who have used research as the basis for practice innovation or who have provided the leadership for utilization of research in clinical nursing practice. All members of the Eta Omega Chapter are invited to submit an application for a research utilization award. The completed entry form, documentation following guidelines, and the research article that was utilized must besubmitted to the Chairperson of the Research Committee by January 15. The amount of the award is $200.

Review and notification process

After the Board votes on the Research Committee's recommendation, all candidates are notified by the Research Committee Chairperson of the decision. The announcement of recipients of the awards and the presentation of certificate with check for $200 occurs at the Kathleen M. Fox Memorial Lecture in the Spring.
Recipients of this award are expected to share their strategy for the utilization of research through the chapter website. Recipients may also be requested by the Chapter Program Committee to present their strategy at a Chapter program. Recipients of the Eta Omega Research Utilization Award are encouraged to submit their applications to Region 5 for its award competition. The Chairperson of the Research Committee offers assistance in this process.
To promote the dissemination of members' research, four ($100) travel awards are available per year, two in the Fall and two in the Spring. These awards are to be used to assist members in defraying travel expenses and/or conference registration fees involved in their presentation of research and scholarly papers or posters at regional and national conferences.
Application and selection process
These awards are selected through a random drawing conducted at the Fall Founders Day program and at the Spring Kathleen M. Fox Memorial Lecture. To be included in the drawing for these awards a member of the Chapter needs to submit to the Chairperson of the Research Committee a letter identifying the location and date of the presentation, along with a copy of the conference acceptance letter, and a brief abstract which includes title and description of presentation. A member of the Chapter can submit applications for more than one presentation. There is no limit to the number of presentations that can be submitted per person; however a recipient can not receive more than one Travel Award per drawing. An application will continue to be part of the drawing for one calendar year before and after the date of the presentation. However, a particular presentation can not be funded through a Travel Award more than once.
