The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), which was passed into law on March 18, 2020, extends certain additional benefits to employees including paid sick leave for COVID-19 related illness and expanded family and medical leave coverage to address the lack of childcare due to COVID-19. The original provisions of FFCRA ran from April 1 through Dec. 31, 2020, with a voluntary extension through March 31, 2021. UMass Lowell is offering a voluntary extension with updated provisions from April 1, 2021 - Sept. 30, 2021.

Please see the original FFCRA Informational Poster (pdf) which hasn’t been updated to exclude child care or add some additional leave categories. Updated provisions exclude coverage for lack of child care. However, the basis for leave has been extended to now include:

  • If  seeking medical testing or diagnosis of COVID-19 because of exposure.
  • If seeking a vaccination.
  • If recovering from any injury, disability, illness or condition resulting from the vaccination.

Employees with questions about the act as it pertains to their personal situations should contact Kim_Casey@uml.edu or at 978-934-3557.
