Libraries Strategic Planning Study

This study will develop a comprehensive space plan as well as an infrastructure improvement plan for the UMass Lowell Library buildings, O’Leary, Lydon and Alumni Hall. The plan will constitute a design and development framework to support the vision as defined by the Library. Integral to this vision is the concept of a contemporary library comprised of a Contemporary Core Library, providing both electronic and hard copy collections, plus archive access and additional traditional academic library services; and its allied Library Partners, made up of a range of academic and student service programs and resources. Both the Core Library and the Partners are similarly dedicated to the advancement of learning and synergistically paired spatially. A draft program for the Core Library is currently being developed.

The library plan will support many of the goals outlined in the 2020 Strategic Plan, including those outlined by the Committee on Undergraduate Education and Student Success and the Committee on Facilities Renewal and Campus Planning.

A committee will be forming during Fall 2015 with representatives from the Library, the Provost’s office, and the Library Partners. The following individuals have participated in the initial phase, which has focused on surveying existing conditions and developing the program for the Core Library:
