How do I provide feedback on a UMass Lowell project?

How do I submit a request for a project?

Each spring, project requests are solicited through the Annual Call Process. All requests should be submitted to your department head or director for consideration.

I am a contractor. How do I get involved with work at UMass Lowell?

As a state entity, the university follows public bidding laws. Please check the Central Register, CommBuys and The Lowell Sun for current solicitations.

I work for an architectural / engineering firm. How do I get involved with work at UMass Lowell?

The university works with the MA Designer Selection Board for solicitation of new house doctors on an as needed basis. For more information on eligibility and the application process, please visit Designer Selection Board (DSB) website.

If the project is minor and / or my department is funding the work, can my department hire our own contractor?

No. Any construction or alteration to University property must go through Facilities Management for consideration of potential impacts on building systems, permitting requirements, potential hazardous materials such as asbestos, compliance with state procurement laws, and alignment with the University goals and mission.

How do I order new furniture, request repairs or order signage?

Please submit your request through the online Service Request. We will assist you in selections that are in line with campus standards. Unless under warranty, furniture and signage shall be funded by the requesting department.

Why are projects so costly and take so much time?

It is tempting to compare a campus renovation to renovations you might make to your home. However, public institutional construction is very different from residential renovations. Our team takes special care to ensure that each project will meet your needs while conforming to UMass Lowell and state requirements. Key factors include state requirements for design, procurement, building codes, hazardous materials, accessibility, prevailing wage, and energy efficiency.  Due to the age of our buildings, additional infrastructure upgrades are often required.

How do I adjust the temperature in my room/office?

Building temperature is maintained by the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) team. If the temperature in your room or office needs to be adjusted, please contact Facilities Operations and Services at 978-934-2601.

How do I report a safety issue?

To report a safety issue during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), contact the Facilities Operations and Services Department at 978-934-2601. To report a safety issue after regular business hours, please contact Campus Police at 978-934-2394.

How do I report an elevator problem?

Please contact Facilities Operations and Services at 978-934-2601 during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) For emergency elevator problems after regular business hours, please contact Campus Police at 978-934-2394.

How do I request a large recycling bin?

If you need to request a large recycling bin, or tote, please submit a Service Request Form. Please make sure to include the name of the department requesting the tote, the building, the room number and dates during which you need the tote.

How do I request an estimate?

Submit a Service Request Form with the description of the work that you would like an estimate for.

How do I request cleaning service?

Our Housekeeping/Building Services team and third-party vendors are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of UMass Lowell buildings. If you would like to request cleaning services, please submit a Service Request Form. If you require immediate assistance, please contact Facilities Operations and Services at 978-934-2601.

How do I request emergency service?

To report an emergency during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), contact the Facilities Operations and Services Department at 978-934-2601. For emergency services after regular business hours, please contact Campus Police at 978-934-2394.

How do I request keys?

To obtain keys, complete the Key Request Form. Please make sure to complete all information on the form, including the key number.

How do I request replacement of a burned out light?

To have light bulbs replaced, please submit a Service Request Form.

How do I request signage?

To obtain signage for your area, please submit a Service Request Form.

How do I submit a service request?

To request non-emergency work, you must fill out a Service Request Form. Please be sure to fill out the form completely, including your name, telephone number, department and a description of the work needed.

Who do I contact about snow or ice removal?

Facilities Operations and Services works with contracted companies to remove snow in a timely manner. If you have questions or concerns about areas of campus that need to be cleared of snow or ice, please contact Facilities Operations and Services at 978-934-2601.

Who do I contact regarding pest control?

To report a pest problem, please contact Facilities Operations and Services at 978-934-2601. We will contact one of our contracted pest control services and ensure that the problem is addressed.

Who do I contact regarding work that has already been scheduled?

You can contact the Facilities Operations and Services Department at 978-934-2601 for an update on a previously submitted Service Request.

Who do I contact to have my trash or recycling container emptied?

Trash and recycling containers in the hallway are emptied daily by our Housekeeping/Building Services team. If your receptacle has not been emptied, please submit a Service Request Form. If you required immediate response, please contact Facilities Operations and Services at 978-934-2601.
