Nancy Phelan Shea is Canadian, but grew up primarily in Latin America, and is fluent in Spanish. She received a B.A. in Spanish from the University of California at Santa Barbara and then worked as a flight attendant for Pan Am for 2 years. She received a J.D. from Suffolk University Law School and practiced civil litigation in Boston. She was a fellow at UMass Medical School in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) program and received an MPA from the Sawyer School of Management at Suffolk University. She was employed at the E.K. Shriver Center at UMass Medical School doing research, curriculum development, public health policy, and training in emergency preparedness for individuals with disability. She has enjoyed teaching Disability and the Law online for the past 6 years.
