Psychology Programs


The UMass Lowell Psychology department offers courses in experimental, developmental, social, community, personality and clinical psychology. The program combines theoretical study and scientific research methods with practical application through course work, field studies, community involvement, volunteerism and supervised independent research. Graduates of the Psychology department go on to careers in social services, mental health, education, research and business. Undergraduates also may choose to specialize in developmental disabilities.

Master's Degrees

The Department of Psychology offers several opportunities for graduate work. Though admission to our graduate programs is selective and competitive, we always are looking for qualified and strongly motivated students who will benefit from the education we offer. Graduate program faculty make admissions decisions, though candidates must apply through Graduate Admissions. Students can attend full or part-time. Those who do not wish to pursue a degree may take courses as non-matriculating students.

Doctoral Degrees

The Ph.D. program is designed to train students and current practitioners who seek advanced education in the application of psychological theories and methods to address real-world problems, as well as to promote optimal quality of life outcomes. Options in Applied Developmental, Applied Cognitive, and Community Psychology and Applied Social Psychology.
