The community social psychology faculty believe that students learn best by combining classroom learning with hands-on experience in the field. Most of our courses provide students with various opportunities to get to know the communities that surround the University through organized field trips or by having community residents and leaders as guest speakers. The program maintains close contact with many different organizations, agencies and institutions, including schools, health centers, human service agencies, neighborhood groups, and government agencies.
In addition to field experiences tied to specific courses, all students in the master's program complete a year-long practicum that combines 10 to 12 hours per week of supervised field experience with an on-campus seminar. Students can choose from a broad range of community sites or propose new sites. Go to the Practicum webpage for more information.
Over the years, students have chosen practicum sites in a variety of unique and dynamic settings including:
Several other organizations are listed on the practicum page.
