Biosketch

Melissa E. Swauncy is a doctoral student in the School of Criminology and Justice Studies in the Terrorism and Security Studies Track. She is currently teaching Introduction to Homeland Security and previously taught Introduction to Corrections and Introduction to Criminal Justice during her Master's work at Wichita State. In addition to that, she has assisted in undergraduate Criminology courses as well as Race and Justice courses. For her master’s thesis, Melissa focused on strengthening the training of United Nations Police Officers using and analyzing qualitative interviews with officers and trainers. She is primarily interested in state violence (which ranges from genocide to war crimes) from the perspective of perpetrators, victims and resistance fighters.
