Boy at engineering camp

Outreach

UMass Lowell has the largest public undergraduate engineering program in the greater Boston area. However, its undergraduate population lacks diversity, with roughly 20 percent female students and 15 percent underrepresented (i.e., Black, African-American, Hispanic, Latino or Native American) students, which is not a reflection of the population we serve. While there is no simple solution to these problems, we have implemented, or are planning, a number of initiatives to address these issues.

These STEM pipeline initiatives are designed to identify and target student populations with an interest in engineering, especially those that are underrepresented in our field, and direct our resources towards enrolling, retaining and graduating these students.
