The UMass Lowell Plastics Engineering Department is an internationally recognized leader in plastics engineering education. Founded in 1954, we offer the first and largest ABET* accredited Plastics Engineering program in the U.S. More than 3,000 graduates are working in the plastics industry in leadership positions worldwide.

The Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Plastics Engineering) program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.

Programs of study include:

Our programs combine hands-on laboratory experiences relevant to the industry with the fundamental theory in mathematics, science and engineering. Students are exposed to all of the major plastics manufacturing, design and testing technologies. The department has 20,000 square-feet of dedicated laboratory space, that has recently been renovated.

Constant feedback from industry and alumni enable us to stay on the cutting edge of plastics manufacturing and design technologies. Industry leaders and other friends of the university have supported the program through the generous donation of equipment, machinery, materials and software. They have also funded a number of scholarship opportunities available to Plastics Engineering students.
