Dr. Zhiyong Gu, Dr. Fan Gao, and graduate student Evan Wernicki from the UMass Lowell Chemical Engineering Department will provide a mid-term update for their research on nanosolder pastes. The research team is developing a new type of solder paste based on lead-free nanosolders and halogen free solvents. If successful, this research would reduce the use of several toxic materials in the electronics industry, as well as reducing the energy requirements for the manufacturing of circuit boards. Their research is funded by the Toxics Use Reduction Institute. The presentation will held on Jan. 15 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Wannalancit 405.
