The M.Ed. and Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction degrees consist of 30 credits of coursework. The M.Ed. and Ed.S. are open only to candidates who are already teachers, licensed with their initial or professional teaching license. The Curriculum and Instruction degree does not provide a path to initial teacher licensure (for those who seek to earn their Massachusetts Initial Teacher license, please see the M.Ed. Online courses are offered in conjunction with UMass Lowell Division of Online and Continuing Education on the Blackboard Learn platform. ED.S. CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION
The Graduate School of Education offers the following Ed.S. (formerly CAGS) Degree in Curriculum and Instruction:
M.Ed Curriculum and Instruction
There are five M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction programs, each requiring 30 credits of coursework comprised of core courses, specialization courses and a culminating experience.
Core Courses in all programs

Specialization courses in all programs
Five courses in the area of specialization address the chosen option.
Culminating Experience - Capstone or Internship
Each of the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction programs requires a culminating Action Research Capstone course during the student's final semester in the program. This course may be taken with a MAXIMUM of one other course in the student's final semester in the program. The action research capstone is a hands-on course that is carried out at the candidate's school and is based on the Renaissance Project's Teacher Work Sample. The Graduate School of Education does NOT place students in settings for the purpose of completing this or any other academic requirement for these programs.

Paperwork and fees for admission are submitted to UMass Lowell Graduate Admissions.
There are specific requirements for admission to the (non-licensure) M.Ed. and the Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction listed below. Once the completed admission cover sheet and fee are submitted, the other required materials may be sent to Graduate Admissions individually and will be accumulated in the candidate's admission file until it is complete. Graduate School of Education Faculty do not review the file until it is complete; review takes about two to three weeks if materials are received during the regular semester.
- Cover sheet (specify program and program Option) which is completed electronically on the Graduate Admission website or this form may be submitted in hard copy.
- Admission Fee
- Admission statement (a.k.a. statement of purpose) in which the candidate clearly communicates a commitment to the teaching profession, demonstrates a record of strong instructional practice and a strong rationale for entering a Curriculum and Instruction program (specify option).
- Resume including indication of place and scope of current employment.
- One year of PK-12 teaching experience preferred, prior to admission.
- Proof of Initial or Professional Teaching License.#
- Three Letters of Reference including one (preferably) from the candidate's current principal or superintendent.
- Official Transcripts (a master's degree is required for admission to the Ed.S.)
- Undergraduate and/or graduate GPA of 3.0 or better.
