The mission of the University of Massachusetts Lowell Department of Biomedical & Nutritional Sciences is to promote health by fostering critical and scientific thinking through teaching Clinical Laboratory and Nutritional Sciences theory and practice in the classroom and in applied education settings; and promoting scholarship in Clinical Laboratory and Nutritional Sciences through the discovery, application and dissemination of knowledge.
The department serves all students in the College of Health Sciences by means of its service course offerings (Anatomy and Physiology, Physiological Chemistry, and Basic Clinical Microbiology and Pathology). The department strives to give all healthcare professionals the tools they need to serve as part of a healthcare team and provide evaluative services that will assist individuals in maintaining a better quality of life.
