On Friday morning, Jan. 6, UMass Lowell hockey welcomed over 200 alumni, season ticket holders and supporters to the oldest operating major league ballpark to skate as part of Frozen Fenway. Following the skate, the group enjoyed a luncheon in the EMC Club overlooking historic Fenway Park.
The supporters took to the ice at 10:30 a.m. under sunny skies with the Green Monster as their back drop. Head Coach Norm Bazin and many members of the UMass Lowell hockey team were on hand to greet and interact with the River Hawk faithful.
Bazin and junior forward Riley Wetmore (Swanton, Vt.) spoke after the lunch about how the fan support and record crowds at the Tsongas Center have helped UMass Lowell jump out to a fast start. The River Hawks have been ranked in the national polls since Dec. 5 and have already notched the biggest turnaround from one season to another in program history. UMass Lowell is on pace to shatter the attendance record originally set in 2009-10 (4,664).
