1. Activate your UMass Lowell student email account.

One to two days after submitting your enrollment deposit, you will receive your student email account and access to SiS, our online student information system. This information will be sent to your personal email address. You should maintain an active email address with our office, you can make updates to your email address any time.

2. Apply for campus housing.

We will support and house our students who wish to live on campus while following the directives of Governor Baker and the guidelines that best promote the health and safety of our community.

  • After submitting an enrollment deposit and receiving email credentials, all full- and part-time matriculated students may apply for campus housing as soon as registration opens. Fall 2021 students will receive a notification at your personal email address when registration opens.
  • Process: In the housing portal you will apply for on-campus housing, review the housing contract and select a Living-Learning Community, if desired. In some cases, space is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t delay!

3. Sign up for first-year orientation or transfer registration.

Registration is now open for the fall 2021 semester. First-year orientation and transfer registration are required before enrolling in courses for the upcoming semester. International Students are required to complete the International Orientation Session before the semester starts.

4. Complete your placement testing.

The Massachusetts Board of Higher Education requires all public institutions to assess the skills of incoming first-year students in both math and English. Placement testing is available online for all students and must be completed prior to orientation. Information will be sent to your personal email address.

5. Join our incoming student Facebook group to interact with fellow students and get answers to any questions you may have.

6. Follow us on social media for information on events, campus news and a glimpse of the UMass Lowell experience.

    • Honors College. If you were invited to the honors college register to opt in to the Honors program.
    • River Hawks Scholars Academy. If you were invited to the RHSA, you will need to opt in to the program, you can review the program and your options at the RHSA accepted students site.
    • File your FAFSA, more information can be found through The Solution Center.
    • Health/Immunization Records. Make sure your health records are up-to-date and submit the required documents prior to arriving on campus at the Health Services Patient Portal.
    • Music. All students in all majors may participate in UMass Lowell’s 40+ Music Ensembles. To receive more information about the Marching Band, Pep Bands and many others, please complete the Music Ensemble Participation form.
    • Submit all final, official transcripts. Please submit your final transcripts to UMass Lowell’s Undergraduate Admissions Office. Transfer credit cannot be completed until these final, official transcripts have been received.
    • Submit all Transfer College Reports (for student conduct) for your previous four-year institutions, where requested on your checklist.
    • Find your Transfer Advisor. As a transfer student you have an assigned transfer advisor according to your major. The transfer advisor will work with you to develop an academic plan that makes the best use of transfer credits and provides the most direct path to degree completion.     • Register to join the UMass Lowell Marching Band - UMass Lowell’s music ensembles are open to all students at the university.
  • The University of Massachusetts Lowell will need additional documentation indicating that you have readily available finances towards one year’s academic and living costs and that this funding will continue to be available for the duration of your degree program. It is urgent that you submit the required documentation as soon as possible, as obtaining a student visa may be a lengthy process. Please note that acceptance of international students, currently in visa categories that do not permit study, is contingent upon proof of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration authorization of change to F-1 or J-1 student status by the first day of classes.

    If you require F-1 or J-1 student status to study at UMass Lowell, contact the International Students & Scholars Office (ISSO) by email at: international@uml.edu or by phone at: 978-934-2383. Students in need of visa document issuance must contact the ISSO upon admission to the university.

    Students currently in the U.S. should initiate the transfer of their SEVIS record as early as possible by contacting their current U.S. institution. Additional documentation is required for F-1 transfer in students. An international student who has failed to maintain valid F-1 (student) status prior to the issuance of their first Form I-20 from UMass Lowell will be required to apply for Reinstatement through Travel. UMass Lowell does not support reinstatement from within the U.S. for incoming/new students.     Visit the ISSO website for important pre-arrival information. Accepted international applicants will be notified of their acceptance by the dates below—and must submit a visa document application to ISSO no more than five to seven days later.

    International Students are required to complete the International Orientation Session before the semester starts.
