Welcome!

The Committee on Transformational Education encourages faculty to incorporate a variety of active learning tools and strategies into their teaching. Examples include personal response systems (clickers) used to elicit and assess students' ideas during instruction; web-enhanced courses employing the discussion board features of Blackboard to extend discussion beyond class time, providing opportunities for more reflective and comprehensive responses; and readings and assignments planned carefully to be completed in advance of the class, enabling class time to focus on assessing students' understanding and elaborating on ideas (a practice commonly referred to as "flipping"). These and other techniques for promoting active learning, such as discussion, debate, role-play, group concept mapping, think-pair-share, and interactive lectures, are all designed to increase student engagement and academic success.
