Physical Fitness Standard

The Physical Fitness Assessment (FA) is a test taken twice a year (fall and spring terms) while a cadet is enrolled in Air Force ROTC to make sure cadets maintain an acceptable level of fitness. There are three events: push-ups, sit-ups and a 1.5-mile run. Cadets who are in the General Military Course (GMC), but not on a scholarship, must attempt the test but do not have to pass. Cadets on a scholarship and cadets in the POC must pass the test each fall and spring term.

You must earn a minimum combined score of 75 points for push-ups and sit-ups and complete the run under the allotted time for your age bracket.

The FA comprises the MANDATORY physical fitness standards required by AFROTC to:

  1. Activate or retain an AFROTC scholarship
  2. Meet the POC Selection Program (PSP) Board
  3. Attend Field Training (FT)
  4. Successfully complete FT
  5. Remain in good standing as a Professional Officer Course (POC) cadet through commissioning.

The FA is comprised of four events, which will be performed in the following order:

  1. Abdominal Circumference
  2. Push-ups
  3. Sit-ups
  4. 1.5 mile run

There are three-minute rest periods between each event. The sit-ups and push-ups have a one-minute time limit. You must get a minimum score of 75 to pass the FA.
