The River As A Classroom
Grades 5 - 8
Limit: 27 people including adults

Description

How has industrialization affected our waterways? This program focuses on the dramatic impact the American Industrial Revolution has had on our environment.

Activities Include

  1. Travel by boat up the Pawtucket Canal and out to the Merrimack River
  2. Learn how the river was used for fishing, transportation, and power
  3. Test the pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, and temperature of the river water
  4. Identify possible sources of pollution of the past and today
  5. Determine water quality from collected data and observations.

Scheduling and Reservations

The River As A Classroom is offered September 11- October 18, 2006 and May 21-June 15, 2007. Maximum number per group: 27 people, including adults; preference given to two classes from the same school on any day.


$280 per program (2007-2008 School Year)

 

Programs may be reserved as of May 1, 2008 for dates during the 2008-2009 school year by calling Lowell National Historical Park at 978-970-5000. Please see our curriculum pages for information about our curriculum packets with pre- and post-visit activities. Tsongas Center has been approved for PASS Program funding support. Contact your local cultural council for information on the PASS program.
