Frequently Asked Questions:
How do I register?
Download and fill out the registration form (pdf). Mail this registration form in with a $90 deposit. The remaining payment is due two weeks before camp starts.
Do you take credit cards?
No, sorry, at this time we cannot take credit cards.
Can I sign my child up over the phone?
We must receive your registration by mail, with the deposit to hold the spot.
Times of camp? Is there extended day?
Camp runs Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. There is no extended day available.
My child wants to come with a friend. Can they be grouped together?
Upon registration, you will receive a letter detailing what the campers need to bring, where to drop off, pick up, and a second form. This form will include a space for you to list any friends/siblings they would like to be grouped with, as well as who has the authority to pick up your child from camp.
Where do I drop off and pick up my child?
We will have a Tsongas Center staff member up on the French Street curb (by Boardinghouse Park) at 8:15 am. Our Junior Counselors will walk them into the building everyday. At 3:00 p.m., our staff will walk the campers to this same spot for pick-up. Click here for driving directions to the Tsongas Center.
Can I have your tax number/federal ID number for child care tax purposes?
Certainly. Our tax number is the UMass Lowell number because from here all of our checks are deposited in our accounts at UMass Lowell. The number is 043167352.
Are your staff members qualified? Have they had CORI checks?
Our staff members are highly trained Lowell National Historical Park Rangers or University of Massachusetts Project Assistants and Museum Teachers. Our staff work year round in our regular school programs. All have had thorough training in CPR and first aid. All have been checked through the Massachusetts State CORI system.
What do campers do? Will they be in air conditioning?
See various camp descriptions.
Our building is air conditioned, but there will be some outside activities too.
What do they need to bring?
Campers will need to bring a water bottle, a hat (for trips and the boat day), sunscreen if needed and a lunch. They will be provided with snacks during the day as well as a camp t-shirt. We will send you a confirmation letter with all of the details.
Are the boats safe?
Every camper will take a boat ride. If a camper feels nervous upon getting to the boat, we will have an extra staff member available to reassure and stay with the camper. The boats are run by trained Lowell National Historical Park boat captains. Our staff has also had thorough training. All campers wear life preservers while on the boats.
Can my child be a Junior Counselor?
Our Junior Counselors are former campers age 13 and up who have been selected by staff here at the Center. The program is free, and Junior Counselors are expected to help in all ways during the week. In LATE MARCH, our staff will send out letters to all former campers who meet the age requirements. Campers will be asked to select a week when they are interested in volunteering. THESE POSITIONS DO FILL QUICKLY, SO IF YOUR CHILD RECEIVES A LETTER, WE RECOMMEND YOU RETURN IT RIGHT AWAY.
My child takes medication. Do you have a nurse on staff?
While our staff is trained in CPR and first aid, we do not have a nurse on staff to administer medications. We will not administer medications. Participants must administer medications on their own.
