Yankees and Immigrants

DescriptionGirls experiencing the lives of Mill girls

Grades 3-12

The Industrial Revolution depended on the people who ran the machines in factories. In the early days, those machines were largely operated by Yankee "mill girls" who came from farms all over New England. Soon they were joined by successive groups of immigrants from other parts of the world.

Activities include
1. Role-playing one of sixty immigrants from 1840 to today
2. Using authentic artifacts
3. Taking part in a town meeting
4. Touring the "Mill Girls and Immigrants" exhibit in the boardinghouse.
