Grades 5-8
The extensive use of rivers for water supply, transportation, and sources of power often led to their abuse and pollution.
Activities include:
- Participating in a water chemistry lab which demonstrates pollution and cleaning techniques
- Discovering how the Merrimack River has been rehabilitated
- Visit Francis Gate, a massive wooden gate that was dropped into the canal to save the city from flooding
- Watching the multi-media presentation "Lowell: The Industrial Revelation" at the Visitor Center.
Scheduling and Reservations
Riverworks is available in October - November and April - May (call for specific dates).
Guided School Program Fees: $195
(Note: Schools must arrange to keep buses in Lowell for use during the program.)
Programs may be reserved now for dates during the 2011-2012 school year
by calling Lowell National Historical Park at 978-970-5000. Please see our curriculum pages for information about our curriculum packets with pre- and post-visit activities. Tsongas Center has been approved for PASS Program funding support; contact your local cultural council.
