Industrial Watershed

DescriptionStudents learning the environmental impacts of industrialization throughout the watershed

Grades 6-12

Industry harnessed the power of water to drive machines, but also polluted canals and watersheds. This interdisciplinary program weaves together environmental history and science.

Activities include:

  1. Using groundwater tanks to explore how pollution affects both ground and surface waters
  2. Seeing how a contaminant plume travels underground to poison another town's water supply
  3. Visiting the historic Suffolk Mill to see how water from the canal powered the machinery inside the mill
  4. Visiting other Park historic resources as time and weather permit.
