Sustainability

For more than a hundred years, the University of Massachusetts Lowell has provided for the common good in its neighboring communities and across the state. Through teaching, research and community outreach, UMass Lowell has served the development of its region. Today, we are building on this legacy by directing our resources and energy toward the sustainable economic and social development of the region, the state and the nation. At the same time, we are building a framework for demonstrating how social and economic development works to enhance the health and well-being of our communities and the ecological qualities of our region.

Our ambition is to demonstrate how a public university providing high quality, affordable student programs and operating in the respected land-grant tradition of American public higher education can effectively assist sustainable regional development in a global economy.
