The University of Massachusetts Lowell is a public university committed to promoting sustainable development. We support decisions and actions taken today to improve social, economic and environmental conditions tomorrow. And, we believe the best solutions emerge from lessons from history as well as from concrete, real-world engagement in the chemistries, technologies, cultures, politics, classrooms and neighborhoods of modern life.
On this website, see the rich listings of projects and programs at UML organized by the themes listed on the left of this page. Student opportunities to engage in solutions are offered below.
Our sustainability strategies:
• Reduce our own environmental footprint and expand awareness on this campus
• Research in social changes and technologies that achieve sustainability. We also do research to understand the barriers to making a transition toward sustainable development, as well as the opportunities and strategies for advancing that transition toward sustainable development.
• Teach and learn about what is sustainable, and about what would have to change, and about what will work.
• Work with neighbors, community groups, government agencies, non-government organizations, business organizations and labor unions to create positive solutions.
We offer students opportunities to work on real problems, and give them skills and resources to be successful. Visit these listings for projects or partners that engage your mind and your heart, and build a bright future.
