What is Formula SAE?

The Fastest FInal Exam on Earth: A Popular Science article on FSAE

Formula SAE is a student design competition sanctioned by the Society of Automotive Engineers which enables teams of engineering students to design, build, and compete in small open-wheeled formula-style racing cars. About 120 vehicles from Universities around the world compete annually in this prestigious event held in Detroit, MI in May. Each car is conceived, designed, and fabricated solely by the students, thus providing an excellent arena for creativity, managerial skills, and teamwork. In addition to dynamic events such as the autocross, skidpad, and acceleration test, cars are judged on their design characteristics, as well as the students' overall presentation skills.
