How do I find out about clubs on campus?
You can visit the "Student Organizations" section of this site for a complete listing of student organizations or stop by the Student Activities Office in McGauvran 224 to speak with a staff member about getting involved.
This year, the Student Organization Club Fair will be held on Tuesday, September 4th at 11am outside of the Campus Recreation Center.
How do I join a club on campus?
Most clubs on campus have open meetings where new members can just stop by at meeting time and sit in on the meeting. You can stop by the Office of Student Activities and we can help you get in touch with clubs to find out their meeting times and locations. Meetings are often announced in The Connector.
Where do I go to get information about events and activities happening on campus?
Check out the Events Calendar for events on campus and club meeting times and the movie schedule. You can also look for information in The Connector, listen for events on WUML, view the Hawk I screens and bulletin boards across campus and in the McGauvran Student center.
What opportunities does UML offer for students seeking leadership roles?
Each year, the Office of Student Activities sponsors a two-day getaway, which consists of workshops, roundtable discussions, networking and getting to know other student leaders. Also, each club has leadership opportunities through their executive boards (president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and many more.) I am part of a band. Can my group perform on campus?
The Common in Fox Hall, a.k.a "Home of the UMass Lowell Music Scene," is always looking for new performers to come out and take the stage during Open Mic Nights, our Acoustic Nights and Concert Series. For more information, email The_Common staff.
I like to perform. What opportunities are there on campus, outside the academic requirements? Check out the Off Broadway Players and the Battle of the Bands competition. Are there any jobs available at Student Activities?
We offer employment to students whom receive Federal Work Study or Campus Work Program. Our positions are in the Student Information Centers located on UML North and South and in Fox Hall in The Common.
What's the difference between the Campus Activities Programming Association and the Office of Student Activities?
The Campus Activities Programming Association (CAPA) is a student run organization who plans campus wide programming like Battle of the Bands, Spring Carnival, Homecoming and theme weeks. Student Activities, an office in the division of Student Services, helps provide guidance to clubs and organizations in regards to programs, meetings, and other ventures. They are a resource to all students looking to get involved on campus and to those students who are currently involved.

Where can I park my car?
You can park your car in any lot that is labeled “Commuter Parking Only” which is the Riverview Lot, the large parking lot on UML South, Riverside Lot, the large lot next to Olney Hall, the football field on UML North, and the Ames-Brewery Lot, by the Mills on UML Residential North down by Wannalancit.
Where do I get a parking sticker?
Commuters can get a parking sticker at the Police Department. Please keep your eyes peeled for hours in which they are distributing them, it may be easier to get yours at Orientation, be sure to bring your car registration.
Is there a fee to park on campus?
There is no fee to receive a parking sticker but be sure to park in a legal spot because parking can cost if it is done illegally.
Where can I eat on campus?
Commuters can eat in both the Commuter Café, located in the UML South Dining Hall, and the Southwick Lounge where you pay per item. In the Fox Hall, Smith Hall and UML South Dining Halls, pay one price for all you can eat. Commuters are invited in eat in any of the above locations.
How do I find out what’s going on around campus?
Check out the Events Calendar for events on campus, club meeting times and the movie schedule. Also, keep your eyes peeled on bulletin boards around campus and posters hung around the student union buildings. Another way to be informed about what campus activities as a commuter is to become involved at UML in clubs, organizations, recreational sports teams and club sports.
What are some good ways to meet people?
The McGauvran Student Center and Southwick Lounge is always packed with people to mingle with and eating in the Fox, Smith and South Dining Halls are a great way to bridge the gap between commuters and residents. Also, getting involved in clubs, organizations, recreational sports teams and club sports is a great way to network and learn more about what happens on campus when classes are over.
Where is a good place to hang out if I have time between classes?
The McGauvran Student Center, on UML South, and the Southwick Lounge, on UML North, is a great place to hang out and meet people on campus. There are big screen TVs, pool tables, foosball tables and email stations. There is also plenty of room to relax or catch up on some studying. McGauvran Student Center also houses club offices like Spectrum, Activities Commission, Sojourn (Yearbook), Student Government and The Connector, the student newspaper.
Where can I go if I am having problems on campus?
UML’s campus has many resources if you are having some problems. First, if you are having trouble in your classes, you can take a trip over to the Centers for Learning in O’Leary Library and Southwick Hall. If you are not feeling well and need medical attention, Health Services located on the third floor of McGauvran Student Center is a great resource. For emotional help, consult the staff in the Counseling Center, they are some friendly faces that will help bring about a difference. The University has an Ombudsperson, who is a neutral party that helps investigate situations between students and faculty members. For example, if you feel you are not being graded fairly by a professor for some reason, you can go to the Ombudsperson and see if they can help.
