
Come join the UMass Lowell Pumpkin Carving Extravaganza and University-wide Community Service Project!
This is the event everyone will be talking about!! Don’t be left out!
We need 1,250 carved pumpkins from UMass Lowell for the Life is good Pumpkin Festival on Boston Common on Saturday, October 21, 2006. Proceeds of the festival benefit Camp Sunshine, a retreat for children with life threatening illnesses and their families.
You can help by joining in the activities below, which take place on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 18 through 20.
You could win PRIZES!
- While they last, campus carvers will get a special edition UMass Lowell Pumpkin Head T-shirt.
- Win a mystery prize in the Campus Carving Competition for creating the Scariest, Most Original, Best UMass Lowell Theme, Funniest or Celebrity Look-Alike pumpkin.
- Four of the Collegiate Pumpkin Carving Competition competitors will win a week in Cancun!

11:00 a.m.: Chancellor MacKenzie will kick off the schedule of pumpkin-related activities by carving the first pumpkin in front of Cumnock Hall, UML North.

11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.: Carving stations will be set up in front of Cumnock Hall on UML North, the Quad on UML South and Donahue Quad on UML East on both Wednesday and Thursday.

5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.: Carving stations will be set up in the Campus Recreation Center on UML East both days. There will be food, music and fun for the workers on the evening shift.
- 7:00 p.m.: Collegiate Pumpkin Carving Competition Qualifying Round Join a Qualifying Round for the Collegiate Pumpkin Carving Competition at the recreation center, UML East. The results will determine the UML students who will represent the campus in the Collegiate Pumpkin Carving Competition to be held on Friday, October 20 on Boston Common. (See "Friday," below.)
Get a T-shirt for Carving: All those who help carve for at least one hour will be given a special edition UMass Lowell Pumpkin Head T-shirt while supplies last. All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to help carve pumpkins. No experience necessary.
Pumpkins carved on Wednesday and Thursday will be entered in the Campus Carving Competition. (Read more below.)

Friday, October 20: Collegiate Pumpkin Carving Competition, 4:00 p.m. on Boston Common
- Two teams of 25 UMass Lowell students each will compete against other Boston area college teams on the Boston Common.
- The goal: Try to carve the most pumpkins in an hour.
- The prize: Four members of the winning team will win a one-week trip to Cancun.
- Competitors will be selected in a Collegiate Carving Qualifying Round at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the recreation center.

Saturday, October 21, 2006: Pumpkin Festival
- 12 noon to 8:00 p.m.: Join Chancellor MacKenzie at the UMass Lowell tent on Boston Common and watch Life is good break the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest assemblage of carved, lit pumpkins in the world.
- All events at the Pumpkin Festival are FREE!!
- Buses to Boston Common for the Pumpkin Festival:
- 3:00 p.m.: Buses to Boston Common will leave from the front of Fox Hall on UML East. Tickets required, see below.
- 3:15 p.m.: Buses to Boston Common will leave from the UML South bus stop. Tickets required, see below.
- 8:30 p.m.: Buses return from Boston Common.
- Bus tickets cost $5 per person for round-trip transportation. All money raised from ticket sales will go to Camp Sunshine.
- Tickets are on sale at the Student Information Centers located in the McGauvran Student Center, 2nd floor on South and the Southwick Food Court on North.
- Students, faculty, staff, alumni, family and friends are all invited to come by the UMass Lowell Tent on the Boston Common and help carve more pumpkins to make sure we break the record. Feel free to bring ones you may have carved at home to add to the UMass Lowell contribution.
