Who is eligible for room selection?
All students who currently live on-campus and who are full-time, matriculated students. A contract and $200 deposit must be submitted prior to the last Friday in March.

Where do I submit my contract? What form of payment is accepted?
All contracts and deposits must be submitted to the Office of Residence Life located in Fox Hall 602.  Payments will not be accepted at the Treasury Office or the Dean of Students Office.

Deposits will be accepted in the form of check, money order, or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover).  We do not accept cash or American Express.

What happens if I miss the contract deadline?
Any student who misses the Room Selection deadline will be placed onto the wait list and will not be able to participate in Room Selection.  Students from wait list will not be assigned until every student who submitted their contract on time has been assigned.

I do not currently live on-campus, may I still participate in room selection?
Unfortunately, no.  Room Selection is only available to current residents.  New students to housing, including freshmen, transfers, and commuters, may sign up for housing by submitting a contract and $200 deposit prior to the first business day in May.

May I retain my current room or suite? How?
If you are not being displaced, you may retain your room for the following academic year.  You may do this by logging onto the Online Housing Gateway and selecting the Room Retention feature between April 7, 2008 and April 8, 2008 for suites, and between April 15, 2008 and April 17, 2007 for traditional rooms.

In the past you needed to fill a suite completely and have 50% of the original suite return.  Do I need to do this to keep my suite?
Effective in 2008, you no longer have to fill a suite or have 50% remain.

What does displacement mean? Who is displaced?
Displaced students are ineligible to retain their room.  A list of locations that are displaced for the 2008-2009 academic year include:

  • Bourgeois Hall
  • Donahue Hall 2-person suites; RA suitemates
  • Eames Hall
  • Fox Hall 12th, 13th, and 14th floors; xx06 and xx15 triples
  • Leitch Hall
  • Sheehy Hall 2-person suites; RA suitemates

I currently live in Eames Hall and am being displaced. What are my options?
1. Any Smith Hall resident who properly retained their room may pull you into their room if they have a vacant space.  This is done by submitting the appropriate form available on our website to the Office of Residence Life, Fox Hall 602, by Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 4 p.m.

2. You may request to move into an available space in Smith Hall after the Room Retention process has ended. This is done by submitting the appropriate form available on our website to the Office of Residence Life, Fox Hall 602, by Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 4 p.m.  Assignments will be made prior to Wednesday, April 30, 2008.

I currently live in Fox Hall and am being displaced.  What are my options?

May I pull-in a roommate or suitemate? How?
If you have a vacancy in your room or suite after the retention process for your room has passed, you may pull-in another student who has completed their eligibility for Room Selection.  You may do this by logging onto the Online Housing Gateway and selecting the Roommate Pull-In feature between April 10, 2008 and April 11, 2008 for suites, and between April 28, 2008 and April 29, 2008 for traditional rooms.

I have a friend who is currently a commuter. May I pull them into my room or suite?
Unfortunately, no.  Only current residents are eligible for Room Selection.  However, you are more than welcome to ask for a room change by submitting a Room Change Request form once everyone is assigned.  Additionally, you may contact your Resident Director at the beginning of the school year if you would like to coordinate a Body-for-Body switch.

I am interested in moving into a suite or apartment, how may I do this?
On Saturday, April 12, 2008 you may log onto the Online Housing Gateway and select the Suite Selection feature.  At this time you will be able to view all available suites/apartments in real-time, similar to a plane ticketing system.  You will be able to log onto the system to select an available suite or apartment based on your Allocation Number.  For the Suite Selection schedule, please refer to page 9 of your Room Selection packet.

Do I need to form a group of 4, 6 or 8 to request a suite online?
Effective in 2008, you no longer have to form an entire group.  This allows individuals to participate in the suite selection process.

What is an allocation number? How do I know what mine is?
An Allocation Number is a unique number that is given to each student who participates in Room Selection.  Your number is comprised of the following criteria:

  • Your Priority Point number
    • Academic Year
    • Academic Standing (GPA)
    • Leadership Involvement (Hall Council, RHA, SGA, CAPA)
    • Good Judicial Standing (no drug or alcohol incidents)
  • Your proximity from the University
  • A random number to break any ties

Your Allocation Number will be e-mailed to you by the Office of Residence Life approximately one (1) week prior to Suite Selection.

I am not interested in any of the previous process and simply want to move across campus. How many I do this?
Students who are not retaining their room/suite, being pulled into another room/suite, or going through Suite Selection are entered into Auto-Allocation.  Students should log onto the Online Housing Gateway between April 7, 2008 and April 30, 2008 and enter their room, roommate, and meal plan preferences.  The order of assignment will be by Allocation Number.

Am I guaranteed to receive my first room preference?
No, rooms requests are subject to availability.  Please ensure you enter many preferences in case you do not receive your first preference.

How may I request a specific roommate when going through auto-allocation?
Students who wish to live with a specific roommate must enter their student ID number(s) on the roommate screen.  Additionally, your requested roommate(s) must mutually request you.  Please note, entering more than one roommate infers you wish to live with all of the roommates, not any of them (i.e. if you enter two roommates, you are looking for a triple room).

Non-mutual roommate requests (i.e. you request a student, but they do not request you) will be ignored.
