Prospective Residents

All students are welcome to apply for on campus housing regardless of where you live or whether you are a matriculated part-time or full-time student.  Due to limited space, however, we cannot guarantee housing and will place students based on the time we receive their contract and other factors such as their proximity from the University.

Housing in 3 Easy Steps!

Step 1: Carefully review the “Residence Hall Contract and Terms of Agreement.”

Step 2: Return a copy of the housing contract (see our forms section) and submit a $200 non-refundable housing deposit to:

Office of Residence Life
University of Massachusetts Lowell
100 Pawtucket Street
Lowell, MA 01854

Please make out your check or money order to UMass Lowell, and please DO NOT send cash. Credit cards can be used by filling out the appropriate form (see our forms page). Sending the contract and/or deposit to any other department, combining the housing deposit with the tuition deposit, or sending the contract without the deposit will significantly delay your housing process.

Step 3: Visit the Online Housing Gateway and select your preferences. Every student must select a meal plan preference or they will be defaulted to the 14 meal plan. You may have to wait up to one week of our department receiving your contract and deposit before being able to log in.

Contract Deadline – TBA vs. Waitlist

The deadline for fall housing is May 1 of each year. Although we do not guarantee housing, getting your contract in on time will significantly increase your chances for getting an assignment.

Everyone who fulfills their contractual obligations before this deadline will go onto our To-Be-Assigned (TBA) list. We will assign everyone from this list first before assigning anyone on the waitlist.

Those who complete their contractual obligations after this deadline will go onto our Waitlist.  Once everyone from the TBA list is assigned, we will then look to this list and assign based on the time your contract was received and your distance away from the University.

Housing for New Freshmen

The Office of Residence Life is committed to making a student’s first year experience as comfortable as possible.  With this goal in mind, we have two (2) Residence Halls, Leitch and Bourgeois, designated solely for freshmen.  In the event that we exceed the capacity of these buildings, we will place freshmen in three (3) designated floors in Fox Hall.

The first year of college offers a wide range of new experiences: living with a roommate, managing money, organizing free time to meet academic responsibilities. The LEARN Program in the freshman halls helps you develop the skills and insights you need to succeed with the exciting new opportunities and challenges of college.  For more information please reference the Admissions website and the LEARN program.

Housing for Transfer and Commuter

Transfer and commuter students that apply for housing are eligible to live in any of our six (6) non-freshman buildings.  Please note, however, that all students in this category will be assigned after we have completely assigned our returning students.

Housing for MCC Connection Students

The University allows exactly twenty (20) Middlesex Community College students in the Connections program to reside on campus.  These spots will be assigned to those who live farthest away from the University who submitted their contract and deposit before the deadline.  For additional information about the Connections program, please contact the Admissions Office at Middlesex Community College.
