Annual EventsOpening Weekend All new first year students participate in the Opening Weekend programs during the Labor Day weekend. After checking in and unpacking, approximately 700 new freshmen will participate in a weekend of activities and discussions. Included will be lots of fun and excitment including a hypnotist and carnival, as well as discussions on maximizing your college experience, academically and personally Opening Week During the first week of classes, the Residence Hall Association and the Activities Commission will provide ongoing events for new and returning students. Watch for posters and flyers for event schedules. Family Day An event for all ages! Family Day is an annual event, featuring food and drink booths, games and more. The families of the students are invited to come and spend the day on campus with them. Safe Trick-or-Treating During Halloween, the Residence Hall Association decorates student rooms and hallways, hand out candy and participate in the Safe Trick-or-Treating candy giveaway for the children from local elementary schools. There also may be a haunted house or scary hallway, each with the intention of creating a safer Halloween for local children. Semiformal Dances Every year the Residence Hall Association holds one to two semiformals, where students can dance and enjoy dinner with friends. In the past, the fall semi formal has been a Boston Harbor Cruise Dinner/Dance, which takes place during Fall Semester. The spring semiformal usually take places in March or April. Spring Carnival The University's Spring Carnival is the most celebrated of all activities during the year. Bands from all over the country come to perform, and students and their friends enjoy carnival rides. Hall council and staff members have booths where they sell food, drinks and offer games and activities (such as face painting, golf, tie-die t-shirts, etc.) to raise money for the hall council's programs in the residence halls. | |
