Alumni Guide to Career Services

We strive to provide services that help alumni build job search skills and facilitate positive interactions with employers.

Career Resources
Alumni can easily find job search advice, links to recruiting employers and job search engines on our Web site. To fully access all online services, you must possess an online account with the Office of Career Services. Recent grads are maintained in our system for one year.

To verify that you have a free online account, contact Career Services by phone (978-934-2355) or e-mail career_services@uml.edu
.  Our online recruiting system posts job opportunities from hundreds of employers across the nation. Posted opportunities include internships, co-ops and professional positions in a wide variety of industries, academic disciplines and functional areas.

Career Search®
Career Search® is available 24/7 to students and alumni through their online account. Users can research an industry database of more than four million companies by geographic location and keyword.  The resulting information includes critical data and, possibly most significantly, the names and titles of key personnel in each organization.

University Career Advisory Network (UCAN) Mentors
UCAN/Mentors is a database of professionals, many of whom are UML alumni, who have volunteered to talk with students and other alumni about their career interests and networking resources. Our volunteer advisors represent a broad range of occupations and industries.  For more information about this service, please e-mail Martina Witts.  You may also self-register as a mentor.

Hot News
Central to our Career Services' home page is Hot News.  Time-critical information regarding upcoming career events and deadlines -- local, regional, and national -- is updated frequently if not daily.

Job Fairs and Career Events
Job fairs and career events are designed to bring job seekers and employers together. Check out the Events/Information section on our Web site to learn the details of our next event.

Career Resources
CareerTV, linked from our home page, provides access to a comprehensive series of free online videos covering job search skill topics and industry/company profiles.  A variety of career-related books, trade journals, directories and job-search handouts are available in our office, Southwick 200. Videos in the office include helpful information for interviewing effectively, preparing for job fairs, networking and other job search skills.

Focus®
Focus® is a career-exploration program that may help refine your career plans and match job opportunities to your skills and interests. It is accessible from our home page.  We recommend a follow-up consultation with a Career Services career counselor.

InterviewStream®
InterviewStream® provides you with the opportunity to practice your interview skills -- anywhere, anytime.  You simply need a computer with internet connection and a webcam.  InterviewStream® is accessible from our home page.  After recording (and re-recording as many times as you like), you have the option of choosing to email your results to career_services@uml.edu for a consultation with a Career Services career counselor.

Resume Referral Service
You can search and review employer-posted job listings through Career Services' online recruiting system.  Whenever you find a posting of interest, you can easily apply for the position, either by uploading and submitting a resume via the system, or by emailing application materials directly to the employer. Interested employers will contact you directly.

On-Campus Recruiting
Employers may request the opportunity to review resumes of our recently graduated alumni up to one year post-graduation. Using Career Services' online recruiting system, alumni can self-refer their resume, learn whether they were selected for an interview and sign up for an interview time slot. Career Services hosts these employers in our offices for screening interviews.

Career Guidance
An appointment with a career counselor can help with identifying marketable skills, development of a targeted career search strategy, and vocational testing or practice interviews. Call 978-934-2355 for an appointment.
