  • Is there transportation on campus on the weekends?

    Yes, the shuttles run during the weekend on a more limited schedule. For additional services the LRTA buses can be used.

  • Does the shuttle go to Gallagher?

    UMass Lowell Roadster will provide service to Gallagher Train Station after 7 p.m. during the weekdays. When the LRTA is not running, UMass Lowell transportation will provide on-cvall service to Gallagher Train Station. To see when the LRTA is running and for a complete list of stops and the schedule, go to the LRTA Web page.

  • Do you have handicapped accessible shuttles?

    Yes, we do. Please call 978-934-2222 for service.

  • Can buses be rented?

    Yes, campus groups (such as sports teams, clubs or classes) can rent buses. To do so, you can contact North Reading Transportation at (978)-446-8784. Vans can also be rented during off-peak hours (weekends and breaks). Contact transportation services at (978) 934-2222 for rates and availability.

  • Can I wave the bus down?

    Sorry, for your safety the bus will only pick up and drop off at approved bus stops and locations.

  • Is campus accessible by public transportation?

    Yes. In addition to the UMass Lowell shuttle, the LRTA (Lowell Regional Transit Authority) provides bus service to campus, originating at the Kennedy Bus Transfer Station at the Gallagher Intermodal Transportation Center. The MBTA provides commuter rail service from Boston to Lowell, terminating at the Gallagher terminal where bus service to campus is accessible. UMass Lowell Roadster Service to Gallagher Intermodal Transportation Center begins at 7 p.m. during the weekdays.

    If you are in need of our paratransit services, please contact Ext. 2596 or leave a message at Ext. 2222, and we will contact you with information on how to contact us whenever you need a ride.

  • Can I be picked up at the train station?

    Transportation to and from both North and South Campus and to the Gallagher Terminal Train Station can be accessed using the LRTA bus service.When the LRTA is not running, you can take the River Hawk Roadster to the train station.

    UMass Lowell Transportation services are FREE of charge to the campus community. However, there is a charge for taking public buses (LRTA) and trains (MBTA).
