The UMass Lowell Computer Science Department has three computer laboratories that can be used by any student enrolled in a Computer Science class (i.e. course number beginning with '91'). 2 of these labs (308 and 310) are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Students can unlock the lab doors via their student id card.
A student must have a valid computer science LINUX or campus windows account in order to use these lab computers. Please click here to find out how to get an account.
These labs are located on the 3rd. floor of Olsen Hall and are as follows:
1. Olsen 308
This lab contains 25 Apple iMac systems and 1 HP LaserJet printer. Students use their linux account to access the X-windows / GNOME or KDE graphical linux environment or the Apple OS X environment. From these systems, students can access their linux home directories without needing to connect to the main linux server. Installed onto these systems are the standard set of editors, compilers, web browsers, office suite applications and other required software packages.
2. Olsen 310
This lab contains 25 HP systems and 1 Xerox printer. These systems are running Microsoft Windows and Linux in a dual-boot environment. The Windows environment consists of Microsoft Office software, Microsoft compilers, browsers and other software needed for specific homework assignments. Installed onto this linux environment are the standard set of editors, compilers, web browsers, office suite applications and other required software packages.
3. Olsen 314
This lab contains 30 DELL systems and 1 HP LaserJet printer. These systems are running Microsoft Windows. These contain the standard Microsoft Office software, Microsoft compilers, browsers and other software needed for specific homework assignments.
Please read this document (pdf) to learn more about how to use the computers in these labs.
The usage of the systems in these labs is governed by the procedures and rules outlined in the 'UMass Lowell Computer Science Acceptable Use Agreement'. Failure to adhere to these policies WILL result in loss of computer usage privileges.
Please also see www.cs.uml.edu for more information on other CS research groups and their locations.
