Gathering at the Well Forum

Gathering At The Well Logo 2010 Traditionally, women gathered at the well to collect water and to share common issues, turning an onerous task into a source of community and strength. The Center for Women and Works' Gathering at the Well Forum is designed to tape into that strength by promoting dialogue on issues of women and work, with a determined focus on raising awareness and creating solutions that directly challenge and, ultimately, erode inequalities.
Our Gathering at the Well forum is an annual event that addresses cutting-edge issues related to healthy workplaces for women. We invite high profile speakers and local action-oriented discussants to cover topics that build on the expertise of CWW Associates. Diverse individuals and groups from throughout New England join us each year: community members, activists, policy makers, as well as university faculty, staff, and students.

Who Wears the Pants? Women Workers in Male-Dominated Fields

What do engineering, the clergy, the military, construction, computer science, management, and policing all have in common?  They are all historically male- dominated occupations. Join UMass Lowell's Center for Women & Work as we explore the experiences of women workers and students who have entered these fields.  We will examine the issue through various lenses: through academic research that provides statistics and examines the influence of long-held societal values; through women's stories of what it’s like to work in these fields; and through the narratives of those who advocate for gender equity in these fields.
