Geotechnical Engineering Research Laboratory

The Geotechnical Engineering Research Laboratory is a division of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.  The laboratory is currently led by Professor Samuel G. Paikowsky (Sc.D., MIT).  The geotechnical engineering program offers an active and informative learning environment for students of various learning styles and interests.  Students gain hands-on experience in design, testing, and analysis in the laboratory, in the field, and in the classroom.  Professors concentrate on fundamental aspects, as well as applied engineering problems.

Our diverse and extensive research is supported by the National Science Foundation, the Federal Highway Administration, Massachusetts Highway Department, National Research Council, Transportation Research Board, as well as private organizations.  The level of funding demonstrates the success of our research projects and our involvement in fundamental research along with the dedication to address practical engineering problems.
