In
support of the Universitys commitment to the
economic and social well-being of the surrounding
community, the Center for Health Promotion is
dedicated to improving the health care of the
regions residents. To accomplish its
mission, the Center focuses on several areas of
activity: faculty research in the health
professions, faculty consultations to practicing
health professionals, and consumer education aimed
at improving health status. Working
with some of the health and social service agencies
in greater Lowell, the Center has sponsored
programs in such areas as HIV/AIDS prevention and
education, health care for minorities, smoking
cessation, gerontological issues, and the reduction
of infant mortality. The
Center disseminates information to the public
through publications of the Lowell Tobacco Control
Coalition. Health promotion information has also
been translated into Spanish and Southeast Asian
languages. |
