Model United Nations

The UMass Lowell Model UN (UMLUN) Conference simulates many of the prevailing international issues and conflicts that confront the United Nations. Participants are asked to play the role of a particular country's statesmen or diplomats, facing challenges similar to those faced by official diplomats at the UN. They are expected to learn about their respective nations' involvement in selected issues, develop and communicate their countries' positions on these issues, test their negotiation skills, and further the position of their states.

By joining this simulation, participants learn many skills that will serve them in their studies and future professional careers. They teach themselves the clashing views on current international issues, learn to compose diplomatic papers and practice negotiation skills with their counterparts. They also familiarize themselves with the extensive resources and databases available on the Internet. They will engage themselves with a very direct, interactive and experiential educational experience.

In 2008, the Model United Nations will take place between April 1-3, 2008, on the second floor of Wannalancitt Hall.
