Message from the ChiefThe University of Massachusetts Lowell Police Department was created as a result of authority promulgated by the General Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees. This authority includes the responsibility to protect the lives, rights and property in and around the University.The department is a full service Public Safety Agency that provides Law Enforcement, security and safety services, with an emphasis on service and protection efforts to the University and Greater Lowell Community. Our officers are trained to the highest standards possible through recognized police academies, and undergo rigorous field training prior to exercising authority in and around the UMass Lowell community. We are committed to maintaining core values that reflect industry standards of competent and accessible law enforcement and security services. We encourage you to take advantage of these services and invite you to be a partner in making our campus as safe as possible. We aspire to provide resources and expertise to prevent crime, to proactively develop community partnerships and to provide services to the University that promotes safety. The Department welcomes your participation and encourages you to become involved in the function of a secure and accessible campus.
